Book a LGBT+ school speaker for Anti-Bullying Week 2023
Education
Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people’s charity, has LGBT+ school speakers available for Anti-Bullying Week 2023 (13 – 17 November).
Just Like Us’ Growing Up LGBT+ report showed that LGBT+ young people are twice as like to have been bullied in the past year than their non-LGBT+ peers.
Just Like Us Ambassadors give school talks to secondary schools and sixth form colleges in the UK, both online and in person, helping to prevent anti-LGBT+ bullying.
Ambassadors are LGBT+ volunteers aged 18 to 25, meaning their stories are relatable to young people in the classroom, making talks especially impactful.
Ambassadors share their stories of growing up LGBT+, and discuss allyship and how to tackle anti-LGBT+ attitudes, while sharing age-appropriate explanations of key terms and concepts.
School talks can be tailored to specific school communities, as well as for special events like Anti-Bullying Week and LGBT+ History Month.
What do Just Like Us school talks cost?
School talks that take place in our busiest times (February, March and June) cost £100. Any other time of the school year, we charge just £50 for school talks.
Usually we require four weeks’ notice for school talk bookings but will do our best to accommodate what you need.
How long do school talks last?
Talks last between 20 minutes and one hour, depending on your preference. You can book our speakers for a class, year group or even whole-school assembly – there is no extra cost for a bigger audience.
Inspire your pupils and get their feedback
Following feedback surveys, schools can also see the impact a school talk has had through anonymised data.
LGBT+ representation is vital for all young people — research has shown that LGBT+ inclusion benefits the well-being of all pupils, whether they are LGBT+ or not.
Our independent research has also shown that supportive environments both at home and at school have wide-ranging benefits for LGBT+ young people, from their relationships to mental health to job prospects, that last into adulthood.
