Just Like Us, the LGBT+ charity for young people, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dominic Arnall as the charity’s new Chief Executive Officer. Dominic will join Just Like Us in February 2020, replacing the outgoing Chief Executive and Founder, Tim Ramsey, who will continue to support the charity by joining its Trustee Board.

Dominic brings an outstanding track record of working to transform the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) young people in education, as well as a particular expertise in mental health.

Since 2018 Dominic has headed the programme management of Mind’s Time to Change campaign, which aims to change attitudes towards mental health in the workplace, schools and communities. Before joining Mind, Dominic was Head of Projects and Programmes at the LGBT+ charity Stonewall, where he led the organisation’s education and international programmes.

Dominic will join Just Like Us at an exciting period of growth. Since launching in February 2016, Just Like Us has trained over 300 LGBT+ young people as relatable role models who have worked with over 50,000 school students in talks and workshops. Just Like Us’ national campaign, School Diversity Week, reached a further 1.4 million students in 171 of the 181 Local Authorities in England and Wales. Dominic will work with the Board to lead the charity through an exciting and ambitious period of growth as Just Like Us aims to reach every school in the UK by 2030.

Dominic Arnall, incoming Chief Executive of Just Like Us

Dominic Arnall, incoming Chief Executive of Just Like Us, said:

“I'm thrilled to join Just Like Us as Chief Executive in this exciting stage of the charity's development, working with schools across the UK to ensure they become happy, healthy places for LGBT+ young people. Research commissioned for Just Like Us this year revealed that LGBT+ young people are twice as likely to have experienced discrimination and that three in four have experienced bullying. I look forward to working with the team at Just Like Us to ensure schools have what they need to combat homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying so that LGBT+ people can be themselves and thrive.”

Tim Ramsey, founding Chief Executive of Just Like Us, said:

“Dominic shares Just Like Us’ passion for LGBT+ rights and commitment to delivering innovative programmes to champion LGBT+ equality and challenge prejudice in schools. His track record of leadership, strategic experience and extensive knowledge of the education sector makes him uniquely placed to lead Just Like Us through the next phase of ambitious growth. Together with our Board and the whole Just Like Us team, I am looking forward to working with Dominic to build a world where every LGBT+ young person in the UK lives awesome lives.”

Daniel Gerring, Chair of Trustees of Just Like Us, said:

"Dominic is a passionate and highly effective LGBT+ activist and leader and we are delighted to welcome him as our new CEO.  Dominic will work closely with our Founder and outgoing CEO, Tim Ramsey, who will take over as Chair of Trustees later in 2020.  This combination of two genuinely outstanding individuals, working alongside a strong and experienced wider board and senior leadership team, together with our highly motivated student Ambassadors and volunteers, places us in a great position to achieve our ambitious and exciting plans for growth.  This is a truly awesome appointment to drive our vision of every LGBT+ young person in the UK living an awesome life.”
