LGBT+ pupils feel far less safe at school.
Only 58% of pupils have felt safe at school on a daily basis in the past 12 months, compared to 73% of non-LGBT+ pupils.
Research shows that pupils in schools with strong positive messaging about being LGBT+ have drastically improved wellbeing and feel safer - whether they're LGBT+ or not.
Just Like Us runs programmes which support LGBT+ young people in schools to live awesome lives. Donate now to help every child feel safe at school.
How does Just Like Us help LGBT+ young people?
We empower LGBT+ young people from classrooms to their careers. Through mentoring, training to speak in schools and creating community with Pride Groups, our goal is to ensure every young LGBT+ person across the UK knows that being LGBT+ is something to be celebrated.
Our programmes include:
Ambassador programme: we train and mentor LGBT+ young people aged 18-25 to go into schools and deliver talks championing LGBT+ equality and inclusion.
Pride Groups: we support LGBT+ students and their teachers to set up their own LGBT+ and ally groups, providing a safe, social space in their schools.
School Diversity Week: our annual initiative empowers teachers and pupils across the UK to tackle homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying, and celebrate LGBT+ equality in education.
After working with us, 85% of school pupils say they are less likely to be anti-LGBT+ in their words and actions.
