Accepting his award via a video message, Jonathan Bailey said: “It’s amazing to be able to highlight brilliant causes, especially for the LGBT+ community. I am very honoured. This is the stuff that means the most.”
On 19 May 2024, Bailey completed the 2024 Wizz Air Hackney Half in support of LGBT+ young people across the UK.
Bailey, who became a patron of Just Like Us in 2023, said ahead of his fundraiser: “Just Like Us is the LGBT+ young people’s charity. They work with thousands of schools and young people right across the UK to make sure everyone knows that being LGBT+ is something to be celebrated.
“I’ve met some of their young ambassadors who go into schools, talking about their personal journeys with coming out, allyship and helping stop bullying. They inspired me to become a patron of this wonderful charity.
“Just Like Us is doing vital work to make sure young people no longer grow up feeling ashamed of being lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans. But they need our help.”
Laura Mackay, Chief Executive of Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people’s charity, said: “We are thrilled that Jonathan Bailey is receiving national recognition from JustGiving for his incredible fundraising efforts for Just Like Us.
“As a patron, his impact on the young people we work with is multifaceted – not only has he fundraised to ensure we can continue to help LGBT+ young people thrive, he is also an example and a role model as an LGBT+ person in the public eye, who does not shy away from standing up for what he believes in.
“On behalf of everyone at Just Like Us, I would like to say thank you to Jonathan and thank you to the JustGiving awards, and I hope we can all continue to work together to ensure that LGBT+ young people enjoy a brighter future.”
