Award-winning actor Jonathan Bailey has become a patron of Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people’s charity.

Just Like Us works with thousands of schools and young people across the UK to ensure LGBT+ young people can thrive.

As a patron, Jonathan Bailey will support and amplify Just Like Us’ programmes, which include ambassadors speaking in secondary schools about allyship, creating safe spaces in schools for LGBT+ and ally pupils through the Pride Groups programme, and helping more than 6,000 primary and secondary schools celebrate School Diversity Week every June.

Jonathan Bailey said: “I am immensely proud to be in a position to support Just Like Us and increase the volume and awareness of what they’re setting out to achieve, which I think is incredibly important.

“Children deserve the right to feel acknowledged and supported in who they are at such a vital time in their lives.”

Laura Mackay, Chief Executive of Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people’s charity, said: “We are immensely proud that Jonathan Bailey has chosen to become a patron of Just Like Us. As an out and proud actor who is an inspiration to so many LGBT+ young people, we are grateful that he is using his platform to raise awareness of our work in supporting the next generation to be their authentic selves.

“We know from our recent Positive Futures report that LGBT+ young people face disproportionate challenges compared to their non-LGBT+ peers, whether that’s bullying, mental health challenges or fewer workplace opportunities. When public figures like Jonathan take a stand on these issues, we are able to raise awareness and move closer to a world where all LGBT+ young people can thrive.”
