Love is Love authors Matthew and Ryan share their coming out stories in School Diversity Week video
Education
Matthew and Ryan, YouTubers and Love is Love book authors, have shared their coming out stories in a new school resource.
The School Diversity Week resource is for secondary schools to use in form time. It features a video message from Matthew and Ryan where they share coming out experiences and talk about allyship.
Matthew and Ryan on coming out
The secondary school resource has been released during Pride month, ahead of School Diversity Week (26-30 June).
It encourages pupils to consider allyship as well as the feelings that surround the coming out process.
Matthew and Ryan’s Love is Love book
Matthew and Ryan’s book, Love is Love, features several life stories from Just Like Us ambassadors.
Amy Ashenden, interim CEO of Just Like Us, said: “We are so grateful to Matthew and Ryan for opening up about their coming out journeys in this school resource. School can be a difficult place for LGBT+ young people, especially if they don’t feel supported or able to come out to those around them.
“We know from our research that many LGBT+ young people didn’t have LGBT+ role models growing up. By being positive, visible role models, Matthew and Ryan are giving LGBT+ young people hope and optimism for the future.”
How to access the school resource
Our free school resource featuring Matthew and Ryan can be downloaded by signing up for School Diversity Week.
By signing up, you will also receive access to all of Just Like Us’ School Diversity Week resources. These include subject-specific lesson plans, posters, videos, assembly slides and more for EYFS to KS4.
