#TransPeopleAreLoved aims to show global support for the trans community.

Inspired by the campaign we asked trans young people and their supporters to share positive messages of hope.

Trans people are loved

Following #LwiththeT, the viral hashtag which sparked a wave of trans solidarity around the world, the Trans People are Loved campaign is calling on allies to share their support.

#TransPeopleAreLoved is a call to action to trans allies around the world to “make love the loudest voice”.

The campaign comes at a time when the majority of trans young people experience verbal abuse and 9 have faced serious mental health issues.

To get involved, trans allies can use the hashtag #TransPeopleAreLoved to send virtual messages of hope to the transgender community.

“It reminds us there are people, lots of people, out there who love and support us. It shows us that we are not alone.”

— Beckett, a Just Like Us ambassador

Positive messages of hope

We asked trans young people we work with, and their supporters, to share positive messages of hope.

Beckett, a trans ambassador for Just Like Us, said: “Visible trans allyship is crucial in today’s climate, especially considering the level of transphobia in the media.

“When individuals openly express their support for the transgender community, it provides a sense of safety and comfort for our community.

“It eliminates the need to constantly second-guess whether mentioning our identity will lead to negative reactions. By publicly standing as allies, people create an environment where trans individuals can feel secure and accepted.

“A mass display of solidarity seen in campaigns such as #TransPeopleAreLoved serves as a powerful reminder that the vocal transphobia present online or in certain pockets of society does not reflect the beliefs of everyone.

“It reminds us there are people, lots of people, out there who love and support us. It shows us that we are not alone.”

“It’s important for all trans people to remember they are loved, they are heard and they matter.”

— Jamie Windust, author, presenter and model

Wren, a trans ambassador for Just Like Us, added: “Allies are extremely important, it would mean a lot to hear that there are allies around the world who support and love us just the way we are.

“This campaign would mean a lot because this is important. Transgender people are still unfortunately being persecuted around the world and it’s awful to see. Campaigning for our rights as trans people is important for the spread of awareness, and to show others that we aren’t going anywhere.

“We are all valid and important and deserve a happy and fulfilling life without anxiety or negativity.”

Author, presenter and model Jamie Windust said: “Right now, trans people around the world face digital and physical threats to their safety and their mental wellbeing just because they are allowing themselves to explore their identity.

“It’s important for all trans people to remember they are loved, they are heard and they matter. Even if we might know that on the surface, it’s important that deep down we remember that too. Trans people are always a part of the LGBT+ community.”

“Love needs to be the loudest voice and it’s up to us to love our siblings loudly.”

— Char Bailey, Birmingham Pride director

Advocate, journalist and Birmingham Pride director Char Bailey said: “Our trans and nonbinary siblings deserve the same rights as everyone else. Our freedom isn’t free. For me, this is about bringing it back to love.

“We’re all humans and dehumanising people shouldn’t exist in 2023. Love needs to be the loudest voice and it’s up to us to love our siblings loudly.”

“Sending a message of support will show trans young people that they have allies everywhere.”

— Amy Ashenden, interim CEO

Amy Ashenden, interim CEO of Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people’s charity, said: “There has never been a more important time to show trans people that they are supported.

“This message of hope and support is one that runs through all of our work at Just Like Us, from running School Diversity Week, to our ambassador programme.

“Although hateful voices can often feel like they’re the loudest, they are the minority. Sending a message of support will show trans young people that they have allies everywhere.”
