April 2023

One of the free resources reads in English and Welsh : We embrace diversity in our school

Free Welsh language resources on LGBT+ inclusion have been released for the first time by Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people’s charity.

The bilingual (Welsh and English) resources include assemblies on LGBT+ inclusion for both primary and secondary schools, as well as posters for all schools to show their LGBT+ pupils that they are accepted and welcomed.

The resources can be used during School Diversity Week, the UK-wide celebration of LGBT+ equality in primary and secondary schools, or at any other time throughout the school year.

How to download the resources

The Welsh language resources can be downloaded for free by signing up for School Diversity Week.

By signing up, you will also get access to subject-specific lesson plans, posters, videos, assembly slides and more for EYFS to KS4 that Just Like Us provides to schools.

School Diversity Week 2023 will take place from 26 – 30 June.

A third of people in Wales are Welsh speakers

Amy Ashenden, interim CEO of Just Like Us, the LGBT+ young people’s charity, said: “I am thrilled that we can equip schools with LGBT+ inclusive Welsh-language resources for the first time, showing all young people in Wales that being LGBT+ is something to be celebrated.

“We know that around a third of people in Wales are Welsh speakers but, until now, they may have struggled to access LGBT+ inclusive education in the language.

“The Welsh language is of course a vital part of Welsh culture, and we hope that our new resources will show young people that celebrating LGBT+ people is an integral part of Welsh culture, too.”
