Using David McKee’s beloved picture book Elmer, the resources are about accepting those who are different to you.
They’re part of a storytime series produced by Just Like Us. This has followed a continued partnership between the LGBT+ young people’s charity and Andersen Press, publisher of the Elmer series.
The resources have been released before School Diversity Week begins and cover EYFS right through to KS4.
What is School Diversity Week?
School Diversity Week is the UK-wide celebration of LGBT+ equality in primary and secondary schools.
Thousands of schools have signed up to take part this 20-24 June.
You can also read our guide to School Diversity Week 2022.
Opening up much-needed discussions about kindness, Andersen Press is also running a giveaway of books to primary schools who take part.
Primary and secondary school staff can sign up now for School Diversity Week – it’s completely free.
Just Like Us provides free resources for EYFS to Key Stage 4 so that schools can celebrate LGBT+ inclusion and diverse families in all key subject areas of the curriculum. School staff can download posters, lesson plans, assemblies, form time activities and video resources.
Dominic Arnall, Chief Executive of Just Like Us, says: “We’re so pleased to be working with Andersen Press again. We’re really proud to announce our release of these fantastic resources on Elmer Day, and to provide teachers with ready-to-go resources they can use with their pupils.”
Paul Black, PR and Brand Director at Andersen Press, adds: “Elmer and Just Like Us are a perfect fit, and we couldn’t be happier to be working with them on these brilliant resources – Elmer’s message of celebration and inclusivity is something to be celebrated, and there’s no better place for that than School Diversity Week.”
