“Once you bring life into the world, you must protect it.
We must protect it by changing the world.” Elie Wiesel
"The most successful social program
is a strong family." Marc Crosby
“Family Piece Ink” is an impacting, innovative, multi-faceted approach to developing strong families by empowering parents to take ownership in how their children will be educated to succeed. Because an informed parent is a better prepared parent, Family Piece Ink parents are conscious of the world’s expectation and are motivated to ensure that their children are prepared to succeed in it. Our parents recognize that discipline is required first on our part, then our children will become ‘just like us’ and they will grow together.
Rebirthing the concept of and recreating a strengthened village, parents design and organize activities and programs that bring families together and expose both child and parent to new experiences. These activities and programs facilitate positive interactions between family members and foster an environment where educational discipline is nurtured toward expectation. Through these non-formal settings (e.g. field trips, game nights, self-help exercises), parents can experiment with different ways to contribute towards the psychological, social and spiritual development of their children.
Because a number of parents are working through issues from their past, Just Like Us offers assistance in rebuilding the family unit. As appropriate, parents are made aware of counseling programs and suitable intervention resources (i.e. parental rights and responsibilities). Information on mental health issues that place families at risk, such as substance abuse, child abuse and neglect are offered in a non-accusatory manner. Services to enhance family literacy development and assisting parents as adult learners to recognize and address their own literacy goals are made accessible as well. Emergency or crises assistance in the areas such as food, housing, clothing and transportation are also provided.
In an effort to continually assess the program’s effectiveness, families are randomly contacted on monthly basis to determine whether the kind, quality, and timeliness of the services received met the families’ expectations and circumstances.
Funding for this program is the result of our ongoing annual campaigns, individual donations, corporate and foundation support. We are also looking for those who want to provide in-kind resources (i.e. event tickets, group event facilitators and volunteers). The more dollars made available to programs such as Family Piece Ink, the more families than can be impacted!
